A hardy shrub with a divaricating growing habit. A deciduous plant that is very hardy and wind resistant. Use in landscape design for interest and contrast.
Endemic to the North Island, Palliser Bay and South Island in coastal and lowland riverbeds on the East coast.
This species is largely confined to drier lowland parts of eastern New Zealand. It is found on moderate to high fertility soils.
Prefers full sun, frost hardy.
